Bruilof 2 (and 3) Approved!

After the first series of Bruilof aired, we were called in for a meeting with our commissioning editor at kykNET HQ. She came right out with it: they loved the series and after reviewing the ratings they wanted not one, but two more seasons of the show. And they’re moving us to prime time (Fridays at 18:00)!

Considering this and the bombardment of awesome feedback we received during and after the first season, we weren’t left with much of a choice. Production is set to start in July with season two of Bruilof premiering on the 4th of October 2013. Check back soon for updates!

Bruilof gets green light!

M-NET STUDIOS, JOHANNESBURG. Recently the Mandelbrot team pitched its brand new show to the kykNET executives and they loved it! After viewing the pilot at their biannual channel content conference, commissioning editor, Feroza Katz, remarked, “Die paneel was stomgeslaan.” (The panel was dumbstruck.)

We are set to go on air 3 July 2012 and run for 13 weeks – the first season of the show. Pre-production starts early in February and 14 weeks of production kicks off on 10 May 2012.

The pilot episode was produced in English, but as the show will run on kykNET we’re converting it to Afrikaans. Check it out below.

Romney Park All Suite Hotel & Spa

Romney Park co-owner and director, Heino Reuling, briefed us on this one-minute promo video we had to do for their website. The bottom line came down to, “Make it ultra-glam.” Romney Park is a simply spectacular experience, so to follow through with this singular notion was easy.

The decor moves subtly from African chic to strongly colonial with seminal antiques and objects d’art. The views of the Atlantic seaboard, Robben Island and the Greenpoint Stadium are hard to beat. The visuals speak for themselves. Click below to watch the final product.

Aquila Promo

Aquila Private Game Reserve is about a 90 minute drive from Cape Town along the N1. It’s home to the Big 5 and one of the Western Cape’s most notable tourist spots.

Recently, the marketing team at Aquila approached us for a 5 minute promotional video about the reserve. The brief was simple: after viewing the video, the viewer must feel compelled to visit Aquila. Simple isn’t always easy, but as we set out to gather as much information about the reserve as we could, we soon mapped out the key features of the estate and how we could present them. This was all translated into a voice over and we started assembling possible mini-narratives within a script.

Production was a cinematographer’s dream come true – the winter weather rendered a combination of dramatic cloudscapes and clear blue skies looming over these timeless landscapes. The wildlife on the reserve also played their part and brought their most exciting behaviour to the table. We were even lucky enough to capture not one, but five of the extremely rare Aquila black eagles (after which the reserve is named) which you’ll see in the intro.

As so often is the case, we had very limited time to get this project wrapped. They needed it ready for the Tourism Indaba in Durban and we had less than two weeks to script, storyboard, shoot, record the voice over and edit. We nevertheless finished on time and the marketing execs were over the moon with the result. Check it out below.
